Matthew and Paul Jones lost their challenge of the guilty verdicts handed down by a pair of juries in May of 2015 for the 1989 murder of Shannon Siders.
The two brothers appealed the decisions that sentenced Matt (Skip) Jones, 48, to life in prison without parole for 1st degree murder and Paul Jones,44, to 30- 75 years for murder in the 2nd degree. Their appeal questioned the venue for the trial not being changed as requested as well as their request...
...for a mistrial being denied and challenged what they termed was irrelevant and inadmissible evidence.
The three member panel of judges upheld the convictions.
Their trial dominated Newaygo County headlines that spring and the story of the crime and the cold case team that broke the case was featured on “On the Case with Paula Zahn” in December of 2015.
Paul Jones remains housed at the St. Louis Correctional Facility and Matt Jones will continue to be incarcerated at the Carson City Correctional Facility.
