![]() Steven Lyle Neihardt, age 67 of Fremont, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2020 at his home following a lingering illness. Steve was born on December 14, 1952 in Traverse City to Carrol Lewis and Rosella Elizabeth (Pearrault) Neihardt. Steve grew up in the Traverse City area and joined the United States Army where he served during the Vietnam War from 1970-1975 stationed in Panama until his honorable discharge. Following his discharge, Steve returned to the Traverse City area and had worked for the Grand Traverse County office for several years. Steve moved to the Fremont area in 2001and started work with the Newaygo County Sheriff's office as a corrections officer until his retirement in 2011. Steve met and married Rose Davis on June 17, 2000 in Fremont. Steve had been an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police, enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s sports, school and other activities; playing cards and board games; hunting in his younger years and loved his dogs. Steve is survived by his wife, Rose of Fremont; his children and grandchildren, Amy (Jason) Brown of Lansing and their children, Connor and Addison; Bryan Neihardt and his children, Walkir and Kennedy of Kalkaska; Beckey (Mike) Craven and their children, Breanna and Samuel of Florida; Julia (Jim) VanTreese Jr. and their children, Katlin, Kristopher, Benjamin, and Bryce; Nathan (Diana) Davis and their children, Amirah and Landen; his sisters and brothers, Ron (Tina) Neihardt of Traverse City; Pete (Julieann) Coombe of Washington State; Doug (Tracy) Coombe of Florida; Cheryl (Jerry) Schwind of Traverse City; Charlene (Tony) Breeden of Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Carroll Neihardt; his mother, Rosella Neihardt and his stepmother, Charlotte Neihardt. VISITATION : Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 11am – 1pm at Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel 7193 W 48th Street Fremont MI 49412 with MILITARY HONORS and MEMORIAL SERVICES at 1pm at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel. INTERMENT : Sherman Township Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Spectrum Health Foundation for Spectrum Health Hospice, ASPCA, or Wounded Warriors Program in memory of Steve.
