A Chance To Scramble For(e) SHGM Cancer Center
Golf event June 9 to raise funds for Gerber Memorial’s increasingly busy cancer center
Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial will host a golf charity fundraiser on Friday, June 9, at Waters Edge Golf Course in Fremont to support the hospital’s local cancer center. The 17th Annual Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial Golf Scramble presented by RTS Construction Group starts at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9 a.m., and ends with a lunch at 2 p.m. Registration cost is $600 for a foursome or $150 per golfer.
“Our annual golf scramble has been a great opportunity for our community to come out and enjoy 18 holes of golf while supporting a facility that benefits many families in Newaygo County and beyond,” said Gerber Memorial Fund Development Director Paul Bedient. “Gerber Memorial is thankful to have the continuing support of our community, especially for our cancer center, which treats more patients every year. We’re also very appreciative to have RTS Construction Group as our title sponsor this year and expect to have a fun event while making life a little bit easier for our cancer patients.”
Registration is available through Monday, June 5, online: give.spectrumhealth.org/gerber-memorial/golf.
The Spectrum Health Cancer Center at Gerber Memorial sees 875 patients, an increase of 75 patients compared to a year ago, with many of them from the Newaygo County area.
In 2016, Gerber Memorial’s annual cancer golf fundraiser attracted more than 100 participants and raised $31,000 for the cancer center. Those funds helped remodel patient treatment rooms, two iPads patients can use during treatment sessions and purchase two automated external defibrillators, or AEDs, for the cancer center.
Lunch will be catered by Lakes 23 Restaurant and Pub at Waters Edge, with a barbecue backyard menu of burgers, hot dogs, onions, pub chips, pasta salad and chocolate brownies.
