Tiger Netters Finish Third After a two hour rain delay and cool temps, the Lady Tigers finished the conference tournament with 21 points. The girls were only 1 point behind state ranked #8 North Muskegon for 2nd place, but split head to head 4-4. The team crowned Kirstyn Throop flight champion at #4 singles. The Tigers got runner medals from Olivia Keelean at 1S and Emerson Cole at 2S. Elvira Cruz and Cecilia Ovalle upset the number 1 seed in three sets to finish with runner up medals at #3 doubles. Great job to the entire team!!! The Tigers play Sparta Tuesday for their last home dual match of the season. SOCCER Rough Road Trip For Packer Girls The Fremont girls' soccer team traveled to Comstock Park Saturday morning to compete against Cedar Springs, Zeeland West and the host Panthers. The day started out with the Packers losing a tight battle to Comstock Park 2-1. The hosts took the lead with two goals early in the second half before Sam Schmidt finished a head ball served by Holly Kortge with 5 minutes remaining in the match. The Packers outshot Comstock Park 6-2. In the second match the Packers faced Cedar Springs. The Red Hawks took the match 3-1 outshooting Fremont 8-3. Natalie Jamieson finished a corner from Holly Kortge in the second half for the Packers lone goal and Taylor Mulder made 5 saves in net for Fremont. Finally, the last match of the day was Fremont against Zeeland West. From the opening kickoff the Packers were dominated, outshot 8-2 and ended up losing 5-0. Taylor Mulder made 3 saves as keeper for the Packers. Fremont falls to 7-6-1 after the day. TRACK Packers Pick Up PR’s From Coach Cliff Somers: We had a solid showing from an individual perspective with many athletes recording season best or personal records. Ben Schmidt was our only event winner winning the 1600 with a PR of 4:27.05. Other PR’s went to: Case Dekryger (Fr) 9th in the 400 at 58.23 Tristen Marfia (Fr) 11th in the 400 at 59.91 Adam Ward (Fr) 7th in the 1600 at 4:59.33 Ben Paige (Fr) 3rd in the 3200 at 10:42.37 Ben DeVries (Sr) 4th in the 3200 at 10:42.97 Dylan Essebaggers (Jr) 12th in the Shot at 32-06.5 Coming back from injury Corbin Wolfsen (Jr) ran a season best time of 45.41 in the 300 hurdles for 5th. Medal winners were Ben Schmidt 1st 1600, Nathan Walker (Fr) 2nd 1600, Ben Paige 3rd 3200, and the 4x800 relay team of Ben Schmidt, Nathan Walker, Adam Ward, and Gavin Orcutt (So) 3rd.
