The Lions evened their record at 1-1 with a cross conference win in the second of four straight road games on their schedule. Trailing buy a single point after one theisitors exploded for an 18-4 run in the second to take a 27-14 lead at intermission. Newaygo came out of the break and kept the pedal down as they piled up 17 points and held the Red Devils to 8 to take command of the game heading the the final frame. Connor Swinehart led the offense knocking down 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Mitch Karrip canned 11 points and Kade Bhuyan also reached double figures with 10. Jacob Polasek dished off a team high 5 assists while hitting for 7 points. “We played incredibly hard forcing Holton into 32 turnovers,” said Lion Coach Joe Barrette. Friday the Lions travel to Remus to face Chippewa Hills. Their first chance to take the floor on their home court will be January 5th. Sparta 56 Fremont 41 25 turnovers and a five-pack of Spartan triple early in the fourth quarter sent the Packers to their first defeat of the season in a non conference matchup with Sparta. "We were very sloppy with the ball tonight,” said Packer Coach Pete Zerfas. “We were down 20 in the 3rd and made a small run to get it down to 7, but the turnovers cost us.” Logan Karnemaat led the visitors with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Carter Moon finished with 9 points. Fremont (2-1, 1-0) faces Reed City Friday on the Coyotes home court.
