Boys Tri County 60 Newaygo 40 Much like Friday the Lions struggled getting out of the blocks and the Vikings built an early lead the visitors could not overcome. Bryce Decker paced the Lions with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Jaden Osawabine hit for 8 points and Gabe Schillman added 7. Newaygo (1-3, 3-4) will look to halt their mini losing streak when they host Grant Friday while Tri County (2-2, 4-4) welcomes in Fremont. Shelby 71 White Cloud 39 The Tigers jumped to an early lead hitting the end of quarter one up 17-9 and they pushed that lead to 20 points by intermission. By the time the 4th began the lead was 34. Coach Jones: “Came out flat and never matched their hustle all night. “ Jared Watson hit for a dozen points to lead the Cloud and Taylor Bode also finished in double figures with 11. Donavan Stevens tallied a half dozen while Kevin Strait and Romeo Johnson each finished with 4. White Cloud (1-2, 2-5) will look to snap their 5 game losing streak Friday when they host Lakeview. Girls Grant 67 Fremont 48 The Tigers got their uptempo game in gear Tuesday shaking off a tough loss and riding some hot hands to the conference win. Coach Delamater: “You can see the difference when the rust is off and there isn't a whistle every few seconds. We were up 20-11 after one on some impressive shooting. Fremont was smothering the paint so we got some great kick-outs and (Jaycee) Rider, (Jocee) Pleune, and (Chloee)Chase all buried their shots. By the end of the 3rd we were up 53-23. “We played a great game defensively with 32 deflections and 14 steals. “ Julie Ashbaugh had a monster game dropping 20 points taking a dozen off the glass and collecting 5 steals. Rider canned all 6 of her attempts from distance and finished with 20 as well and Pleune hit for 12 points to go with her 7 boards. Haley Zerlaut knocked down 18 points for the Packers while dishing out 4 assists while Lily VandenBerg and Jessica Bennett each hit for 8. Khaila Noordyk battled in the paint and finished with 11 rebounds Grant (3-1, 5-3) travels 5 miles up the highway Friday to face conference leader Newaygo while Fremont (1-3, 1-7) travels to Tri County to face the Vikings. Newaygo 63 TrI-County-28 The Lions pounced early in their home den hitting halftime with a 20 point lead and cruising to the conference win. The victory keeps Newaygo atop the standings in the Gold. Coach Thomasma: “"Good win by the girls tonight. I thought we ran the floor well and we were able to finish better at the rim in the second half. I thought Emmerson had a great game tonight defensively and offensively. We got another tough game Friday against Grant that we will have to be ready for. Emmerson Goodin led the Lions with 22 points ,including 9-11 from the charity stripe, 13 rebounds and 4 steals. Jaxi Long fired in 16 points,grabbed 4 steals and pulled down 4 boards and Kayla Fisk had 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. Newaygo improves to 8-1 (4-0 in conference). Tri-County drops to 4-4 (2-2 in conference).
