Grant 7 Sparta 1 From Coach Zerlaut: The Grant tennis team brought the regular season to a close with a victory on the road vs Sparta. The team finishes the dual season at 7-1 on the year. The Lady Tigers showed their dominance in the doubles by completing the sweep. Stong and Patin picked up the win at #1 doubles. Arends and Presler won their 19th match of the season at #2 doubles. At 3 doubles, Pascoe and Pleune only gave up 1 game. Ovalle and Cruz didn't surrender a game at 4 Dubs. Emma Hetler battled back in the second set at #4 singles, winning 6-0, but Sparta pulled out their lone win 11-9 in the third set. The top 3 singles players, Keelean, Zerlaut, and Throop all won. Keelean won 0&0 for the 9th time this season and Zerlaut now has 8 wins at "6-0 6-0". The Grant squad travels to South Christian for Regionals on Friday. The teams has 6 out of 8 flights seeded either 1st or 2nd as they look to punch their ticket to the state finals in Kalamazoo at the end of the month. BASEBALL Newaygo 3-1 Fremont 1-6 In the first game completed from earlier the Lions scored one in the first then added 2 more in the later innings while holding the Packers to just 5 hits and a lone run in the 7th, In the second game Newaygo once again scored a first inning run but this time it was the last Lion to cross home as Calvin Miller tossed 5 tough innings had start pitching 5 innings setting down 11 batters on strikes in the process. Trent Maka worked the final 2 for the save. The bats came alive for Packers as Maka, Austin Kukal and Carter Moon each banged out a pair of hits Fremont is now 20-8 overall with a conference mark of 8-2.
