Grant 5 Newaygo 1 Coach Gomez de Leon: Due to the rivalry between both Grant and Newaygo, most players and fans look forward to the match. We uphold the idea that we adjust our formation based on the teams we are playing, and this game was no different. Adjustments were made to our defense to encourage offensive play and it worked to our advantage. Our midfield dominated the center of the field and Emme Losee, sophomore center mid, was the playmaker of the game. Right wing player Delaney Cronk, demonstrating her footwork was able to make several runs and achieved her third Hat Trick of the season scoring our first, fourth, and fifth points of the game. Makayla Cronk, playing right wing, had an assist to senior forward Nikki Tellkamp who played smart and tapped the ball into Newaygo’s net for our second point. Emme Losee also shot a ball through the center of Newaygo’s defense and Tellkamp with her speed, caught up to it and was able to score the third point of the game. Newaygo had one good run but our defense was well prepared to not just stop opponents play but gain control to start our attacking play. Newaygo was able to score off of a corner kick.
