Coach Zerlaut: The Girls tennis team had another great day of competition. They handled the cold and their opponents down at the Plainwell tournament Saturday. The team won 22 of 24 matches to finish first. Kathryn Stong and Sydney Patin at #1 doubles battled back in their first and toughest match of the day to win in 3 sets, then only lost 3 games in their last two matches, as they showed that they were the best doubles team at the tournament. The top 3 singles flights were also undefeated, only giving up a few games. Olivia Keelean at #1 singles, had two 6-0 6-0 matches to claim the best player of the invitational. The Tiger's 2, 3, and 4 doubles teams also swept the competition. Grant 22, Plainwell 11, Paw Paw 9, Kalamazoo Central 4 Softball Coach Barnhard: On Friday the Lady Indians of White Cloud traveled to Lakeview for a conference doubleheader to take on a team in a very deep rebuilding process. In Game 1, Hallie Schulz threw a 1 hitter and had 3 hits of her own with 2 RBI’s, followed by Hannah Brown with a double and a triple and 2 RBI’s, Izzy Cruzan with a double and 3 RBI’s and Kara Davis with a double and 2 RBI’s and Madison Smith with a pair of RBI’s on the way to a 3 inning 18-0 win. Game 2 was another 3 inning contest with Olivia Bowman collecting 3 hits with a pair of doubles and 3 RBI’s, Kara Davis with 3 hits and 3 RBI’s, Jordan Bulk with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s, Allison Schulz had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s, Kayla Pausch with 2 hits, Hannah Brown with a double and 2 RBI’s, and Breanna Taylor picking up a hit and 2 RBI’s. Kara Davis got the win striking out 4 and walking none in the 20 – 3 win.
