Grant Tennis Regional Results
The 2019 girls tennis team finished with 19 points at the Division 4 South Christian Regional and have earned a place in the State Finals in Kalamazoo at the end of the month. This is the first time the team has qualified for the state tennis finals. Our 2 doubles team of Brooklyn Presler and Jill Arends were the regional champs beating the #1 seed from south 7-6(8) & 6-3 in the final. The Tigers put 4 other flights into the finals, earning runner up status, Olivia Keelean (1S), Jada Zerlaut (2S), Kirstyn Throop (3S), and Kaitlyn Pascoe and Liberty Pleune (3D). The ladies finished 2nd, behind state ranked #5 North Muskegon (26 points). Coach Zerlaut: "The girls played great! We did exactly what we needed to do. My girls stepped up their game and we hit 18 points before going into the finals. It is pretty sweet when you put 5 flights in the finals. "It was nice to not have to depend on the outcomes of any matches to get us advancing to the finals. When Olivia, got the win in the semis, that was the deciding point, it was so special. The girls have worked hard this year and during the off season to achieve this goal. I am so proud of this group. "Last year, we got our first ever regional champ, this year we got another one. Plus, we got 4 other flights that battled for the flight championship. And we fought hard in those too, losing the 3D in a three set match. "We knew North Muskegon was going to be the favorite and we thought we could be right there with them, and their team played great today. Hats off to NM for winning the regional title."
