Clemence, DeKuiper and Chase selected to first team
Photos by Matthew Zerfas A trio of Packers earned WMC All Conference first team honors, a fitting tribute to their contributions in what has been another sterling season for Coach Zerfas’ team Mia Clemence, Taylor DeKuiper and Riley Chase have been instrumental in the Packer success in the regular season and as they enter the District Tournament played on their home court fans are hoping they can extend their season and add to the hardware they’re putting into the trophy case. We caught up with Coach Zerfas between practices and asked for a few words on this talented threesome. Coach Z: All three girls, Mia Clemence, Riley Chase and Taylor DeKuiper have started every game of our 24-0 league run over the past two seasons. Mia Clemence Senior Guard If there was an MVP of our league, it would be Mia Clemence. She imposed her will on games. She was the leading vote getter in the league, was the leading scorer with 17.0 per game in league games and also got 9.0 rebounds, 6.7 steals and 4.4 assists. Mia set the school record for career 3pt shots made, season 3pt shots made and scored 40 points in a game....she followed that up with 34 vs Whitehall sitting out the 4th quarter. Mia will undoubtedly go down as one of the best female athletes Fremont has ever had. Taylor DeKuiper Sophomore Guard Taylor received the second most votes in the league for All-Conference. She does absolutely everything on the basketball court. She averaged 14.0 points per game, 10.0 rebounds, 7.0 steals, 5.6 assists and 1.0 blocks in league. Taylor had a triple double against Manistee, another triple double against Montague in just 18 minutes and barely missed on a quadruple double against Oakridge in just 22 minutes of action(14pts, 8 reb, 8 as, 8st). Even though she shared the point guard duties, she had league games of 22 rebounds, 17 rebounds and 15 rebounds. This season Taylor set the season record for Steals (again) and assists and led us in rebounding(again). Riley Chase Senior Guard Riley averaged 11.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.0 steals. She had games of 19 points vs Ludington, 22 points vs Montague, 16 points against Whitehall and 15 points against Orchard View. Riley combined great defense with long range shooting from outside giving us a 3 guard combination that was very hard to stop. Riley came to play every day over the last 2 seasons and has been an absolute pleasure to coach.
