Tennis The showdown of #6 North Muskegon and #8 ranked Grant lived up to the hype Wednesday as two matches went almost to the 3 hour mark and there were many great long points. North Muskegon prevailed with a hard fought 5-3 win over the visiting TIgers. The netters from Grant got wins at the 2, 3, and 4 doubles flights. Senior captain Jill Arends and fellow senior Brooklyn Presler went 6-3 6-3 at the # 2 dubs position. Liberty Pleune and Kaitlyn Pascoe won at 3 doubles 1&1. Cecilia Ovalle and Elvira Cruz were the victors at the 4D flight 6-2 6-3. Emma Hetler played great winning 4 games in the first set at 4S. Olivia Keelean and Jada Zerlaut hustled hard in long matches. Zerlaut went 3 sets with the Norseman player. The Tigers won 4 games in the first sets at 1D, 3S, and 1S, but just couldn't quite secure the wins versus a very talented NM team. The Tigers look to avenge this first loss of the season next Saturday at the Conference tournament. Softball Tuesday night the Varsity Girls played another segment of “ Ice Bowl 2019” completing a game from April 10 and playing the 1st game of their regularly scheduled game with Kent City. The night began with both teams tied at 9 runs each after 7 innings. Neither team could score in the 8th. Madison Smith singled in the 9th, stole 2nd , went to 3rd on a passed ball and scored what turned out to be the winning run on a wild pitch. Kara Davis got the win by getting the final batter to pop up with a runner on 3rd. Things did not go as well in Game 1 of the rain soaked doubleheader as the girls left 9 runners on base including 2 in the bottom of the 7th in the 5 – 4 loss. Hannah Brown had 2 hits with a 2B and an RBI and Kara Davis had a pair of hits.
