The Lions took control early and never let up.
After a Packer bucket Jaxi Long canned from distance, Emmerson Goodin and Long each converted a pair from the line. Long tripled , Isabella Welch did the same, Long hit for 2 and Barbara Toth tallied and suddenly it was 17-2 for the visitors.
Khalia Noordyk stopped the bleeding with a basket before Kayla Fisk and Long accounted for the next 6 points. Carle Bruggema hit one to finish the quarter for Fremont, who were looking up at a 23-6 deficit as the period came to an end. 
The second was more of the same as Giidin, Fisk and Welch accounted for the first 10 points in the quarter and by the time intermission arrived it was a 40-17 Lion lead.
Coach Zerlaut: “It got away from us pretty early. We just didn’t handle their press well. A lot of turnovers in the backcourt turned into layups for them. I told the girls I was pleased with the fact they were still diving after balls at the end of the game and playing defense. I felt like the effort was there we just have some things we need to work on”Coach Zerlaut also had praise for freshman Noordyk who led the Packers with 9 points and collected a dozen off the glass.

Coach Thomasma: “Really good game for the girls tonight.  Fremont always plays hard and is well coached so it is nice to be able to get a win there.  The girls shot the ball well and  I thought we played with some intensity defensively tonight as a team.  
“Bella Welch came off the bench and hit some big buckets in the second quarter that gave us a good spark.” 
Welch finished with 16 points and a half dozen steals. Long led the Lions with 17 points while grabbing 4 rebounds and nabbing 4 steals and Goodin fired in 16 points collecting 5 steals and a quintet of boards.
Kayla Fisk was an absolute demon on defense for the Lions.
Newaygo (3-0, 7-1) will host Tri County Tuesday while Fremont (1-2, 1-6) gets a visit from Grant.
