Ludington 47 Fremont 16 The Packers traveled to Ludington on Friday night to open league play against the Orioles. Despite a solid effort defensively against a formidable opponent, Fremont couldn't keep the game close due to a lack of offensive production. The Packers were down 15-1 at the end of the first quarter, before outscoring the hosts 8-6 in the second quarter to set the halftime score at 21-9. The Orioles stretched the lead further in the third with a 12-5 advantage, before a 14-2 final quarter set the final score at 47-16. Jessica Bennett paced the Packer offense with 7 points. Ludington's balanced scoring attack was led by Olivia Lynn's 9 points. Coach Zerlaut: "You aren't going to win games when you go 4-37 from the field shooting. Our effort was strong. Our defensive execution was actually very good. Ludington is a talented team that made contested shots, scored over us, and played excellent defense to speed the game up and make us very uncomfortable when shooting the ball. We need to get better offensively in order to better compete against really good teams." Fremont (0-1, 0-2) will head to Shelby on Tuesday for a crossover game against the Tigers. Ravenna 43 Holton 38 The Red Devils took an early lead and kept the Bulldogs at bay for 3 ½ quarters. That’s when a series of turnovers began, starter Ryann Robins went to the bench with a 5th foul and Ravenna put together a run to take control of the game and seal the win. Coach Jordan: ‘We made some careless mistakes with the ball down the stretch that gave them the momentum and a few easy buckets, Credit to them.. it was a tough physical game. I'm proud of the way my team fought. We were down a starter already and Robins had an off night on offense not getting a single field goal but we were still in the game and winning for most of it. A lot of girls stepped up for us tonight, specifically Layla Cannady who netted a game high 14 points. “I feel this is a loss we can learn and grow from. Our youth showed at times down the stretch, and we have to take better care of the ball in crunch time. That’s what this game came down to.” Abby Fowler snared 8 steals to go with her 9 points and .Aubrey Goyings hit for 8 points while pulling down 7 boards. Holton (0-1, 1-1) will make their home debut Tuesday when Oakridge comes in for a crossover game.
