Fremont 61 Central Montcalm 54 The Packers stayed on the title train with their 8th straight conference victory. Coach Bowen: “I thought we played hard, but not very smart. We had way too many breakdowns on the defensive end, and allowed way too many easy buckets, especially in the first half. We had a few opportunities to get a big lead on them, but to their credit, they kept coming back and we were never able to put them away. Coach Howe has done a great job with his kids. They are a much improved team, and they played extremely hard the whole game.” Jordon McDonald once again stuffed the stat sheet finishing with 31 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals, and 3 assists. Joey DeLong dropped a dozen on the Hornets and grabbed 2 steals. The road win keeps Fremont atop the Gold at 8-1 while Big Rapids and Reed City sit at 6-1.The Cardinals and Coyotes play each other twice in 8 days beginning with Monday’s matchup in Reed City. The Packers will continue their quest for the conference crown next Friday when they face the Lions in Newaygo. Grant 75 Chippewa Hills 34 The Tigers took control early, outscoring Chip Hills in each quarter for the victory. Coach Schuitema: “"The players executed on both ends of the floor. They moved the ball and played a complete game on offense and competed well on defense." Seth Schuitema led the team with 20 points followed by Lucas Swanson and Mason Woodard who hit for 10 each. Giovanni Follador added 9. All ten Tiger players contributed and scored. Grant (5-4, 7-6) returns to action next Friday at Tri County. Holton 48 White Cloud 30 The Red Devils couldn’t shake their hosts in the first half as they inched ahead by 1 after the first quarter and went to intermission with a 4 point lead, but then came the second half. The Holton defense held the Cloud to a lone bucket in the third and built a 12 point lead heading into the final frame and built on the lead to secure the conference win and stay atop the Silver standings. Coach Swanson: “It's tough to go to White Cloud and win. They came out and really played a good game. I'm proud of our guys buckling down in the second half and really grinding this one out. Our guys always play hard on the defensive end and on nights like tonight I'm thankful they do.” Wyatt Monette and Carter Brant each knocked down a dozen points with Monette adding 10 rebounds and Brant dishing out 5 assists Kevin Erickson hit for. 9 points and Austin Fowler grabbed 6 steals to go with his 8 points. Jared Watson paced White Cloud with 9 points and Taylor Bode finished with 8. Holton (6-0, 8-2) will host Shelby Monday followed by a Tuesday clash with Kent City. The Eagles sit a game behind the Devs in the Silver race. Lakeview 44 Hesperia 35 The Wildcats outlasted the Panthers handing the hosts their 11th straight loss. Coach Worcester: “Tonight we made improvements on the defensive end, however, offensively we were flat. We had shot opportunities but we couldn’t get any to fall. The second and third quarter we spent a lot of time trying to shoot perimeter shots instead of driving and playmaking. Overall I felt like we improved. Great game for Ben Perez and his Lakeview team.”
