Coopersville led the way for the Red Division girls with 43 points. The Fremont girls placed 2nd with 77 points with some great early-season times, beating Fruitport in a tie breaker. Junior Linnea Paige ran with a small lead group for much of the race, waiting to make her move. In the last mile she pulled ahead of the pack and kept the lead to the finish with a time of 20:43. Coopersville’s Oakley Osterhart finished 2nd with a time of 20:50 while WMC Lakes runner Cami Kraai of Whitehall finished 3rd at 20:57. Fellow Packers Rachel Maddox (22:49), Joelle Patten (23:07), Kira Manchip (23:45), Rocquel Richards (25:15) and Jailyn Saum (25:23) also scored for Fremont. In Saum’s first race for the team she ran the important 6th place time, beating out the 6th Fruitport runner by 12 seconds, the difference between 2nd and 3rd places. In the JV race, Ava Krohn (28:15), Madison Dunbar (31:10) and Alayna Bukala (31:13), all new to the team, ran good first races, earning their stripes. On the boys’ side, Fremont finished second with 55 points behind Allendale with 26. Fremont Senior Carter Sherman led the way for the Packer runners and finished 7th with a time of 17:22. Blake Taylor (17:41) finished 8th, while Cole Lowery (10th - 17:58), Chase Lowery (14th - 18:38) and Issac Romero (16th - 18:52) rounded out the top 5 for the Pack. Mossen Green (18:53) and Brandon Rasmussen (20:39) also ran in the varsity race. In the JV race, Freshmen Max Taylor (20:00) and Jake Christoffersen (21:24) represented Fremont well placing 2nd and 8th. Max led for most of the second half of the race, but was passed in the home stretch, placing second by less than 2 seconds. The Fremont runners compete again Tuesday September 10 at 4:30 at the same course, taking on WMC Lakes and Rivers conference foes.
