Tiger Packer match features tough 'D'
A classic matchup involving two teams playing tenacious defense resulted in a scoreless tie in the conference opener for Grant and Fremont. Tiger coach Daisy Gomez de Leon: “I used a quote from Christie Rampone, former captain of the U.S.A women's national soccer team as a motivator for our team. ‘If we score, we might win. If they never score, we can't lose’. “We also emphasized to our girls that we need to want it more than our opponent. We knew Fremont would be a tough team, but we also knew our girls could put up a fight. During the game we noticed the desire our girls had to win and it showed with some clear plays made by our offense while our defense stood strong.” Packer Coach Steve Vissia: “We simply couldn't net the elusive goal we were looking for. Shots on goal were at a premium during the match as we managed 6 shots on goal while the Grant ended with just 2. Neither side could find the back of the net.” Audrey Johnson made 2 saves for the Packers while Lillian Scott collected 6 for the Tigers. Fremont moves to 3-0-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the conference and Grant to 1-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the conference.
