Girls Newaygo 48 Big Rapids 34 The Lions solidified their hold on the top spot inthe Gold with a decisive road win over the Cardinals who came into the game trailing the visitors by a game in the conference race. Newaygo outscored Big Rapids 18-6 in the first quarter and maintained that edge throughout the rest of the games. Coach Thomasma:”"Good win for us tonight. Big Rapids is always well coached and talented. Even though we were able to jump out to an early lead, BR kept coming back and battling. This was a total team win tonight. All 8 girls really stepped up. Emmerson Goodin had 14 of her 18 points in the second half and really was great on both ends of the floor." Goodin led the Lions with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jaxi Long popped in 8 points to go with her 5 rebounds and 5 assists while Jaylee Long finished with 7 points and 5 assists. Anna Brummel and Lily Ruehmeier each hit for a half dozen. Newaygo improves to 11-1 (10-0 in the league) Big Rapids drops to 10-3 (8-2 in the league) Hesperia 68 Chippewa Hills 58 Coach Grodus: “ We grabbed the lead early and maintained it for the game. It was a very choppy game with 47 free throws shot between the two teams. It is always good to get a win over anyone in the Gold division. Emmi Tinkham led the offense, firing in 22 points, Emily Bayle snared 13 boards to go with her 18 points and Rachel Romero also reached double figures notching 15 points. Hesperia is 1-5 in their conference but undefeated at 3-0 in non conference play. Holton 65 Walkerville 45 By halftime the Red Devils led 39-15 and cruised to the non-con win Coach Mason:”The team did a great job collectively of running the court and not forcing bad shots offensively. Good team win tonight. Very proud of the girls working hard from start until finish.” Ryann Robins 25 was on fire hitting for a game high 25 points while Abbie Fowler netted 15, and Courtney Boes 8. Holton (4-7, 2-4) hosts Holland Black River on Wednesday. Boys North Muskegon 47 Holton 40 The Red Devils led all the way and held a 4 point lead heading into the final frame but the Norse outscored their hosts 19-8 in the 4th to steal the win. Coach Swanson: “Tough game against a good team tonight. North Muskegon moved the ball well and hit a lot of key shots. Our guys played the way they've played all season, but sometimes the other guys hit a few more, and that's the way it goes. On to the next one.” Aidan Poling scored 13, Wyatt Monette took 7 off the glass and scored a dozen while Brodrick Fialek hit for 7 and Carter Brant finished with 6. Lakeview 64 Hesperia 39 Coach Worcester: ”Lakeview had more intensity and played with more effort tonight. Boxing out was still an issue for us. We had 29 turnovers for the game; you can't win with that statistic. We have to do a better job taking care of the ball. We started out slow on offense, but after the 1st quarter we were somewhat consistent. “I'm happy with our scoring. improvements. Defensively we could not win the battles on transition or on the dribble drives. We have a few days to practice before we play Holton on Friday. My goals for the Holton game is to be more competitive and play with more intensity while improving on our defensive and rebounding efforts.” Maddox Mosley led the Panthers with 13 points. Big Rapids 50 Newaygo 39 The Cards remained a half game behind Fremont with a home win over the Lions. Down 10 at the half the Lions pulled within 6 but could not close the gap and BR rallied to expand the lead. Gabriel Schillman and Wyatt Mortenson shared scoring honors with each dropping a dozen. Newaygo (4-6, 4-5) hosts Reed City Friday. White Cloud 50 Walkerville 38. The Indians made it 3 out of 4 with a win over the Wildcats.t. Mason Ruether led all scorers with 21points, Sam Venema hit for 8 while Dexter Cox and Alex Cruzan dropped a half dozen apiece.
