Local Teams Compete At Tompkins Relays

Sparta came away with the hardware Friday in both the girls and boys divisions at the Rich Tompkins Packer Relays named in honor of the legendary Fremont Coach who transformed the school into a Track and Cross Country powerhouse. Coach Tompkins, who competed for MSU during his collegiate career. passed away in 2015.

White Cloud girls  finished second and the boys took third in the seven team meet. Host Fremont took third in the boys division and fourth in girls while Newaygo teams finished fifth in both.

Girls

White Cloud’s Mariah Edwards and Andrea Feldpausch leapt to a 4 way tie for first in the high jump clearing 4’8” and teammate  Gaby Reeve who recently signed on to compete at Muskegon CC took top honors in the discus flinging it 99’11.5 and also placed first in the shot put with a 33’1”.
In the Distance Medley Relay Newaygo captured second with the team of Grace Hughes, Matria Riddering, Elizabeth Chaffee and Remington Arney while in the Sprint Medley Relay the Fremont quartet of Victoria Ekkel, Rachel Maddox, Ariana Tanner and Olivia Stroven came in first followed by Newaygo’s Rebecca Grandy, Madison Cristensen, Thalia Pineda and Elizabeth Chaffee placing second.
In the 4x400 the Lions ran third behind the efforts of  Chaffee, Riddering, Hughes and Emma Mortenson  and the Packer team of Maddox, Tanner, Victoria Ekkel and Cayman Ramsey took top honors in the 4x200 with Newaygo’s Pineda, Elisha Gibson, Emma Mortenson, and Emma Dosch running third. 
The 300m Hurdles saw WC’s Caedance Traynor post a 100.83 for a second place finish with Traynor (20.4)  teaming with Ryleigh Balke (21.2) to finish first in the 100m Hurdles Relay Split. Cloud’s Andrea Feldpausch topped the 1600m relay split running a 6:34 and Packer Linnea Paige took second place in the 1600m posting a 5:40.61 with Lion Remington Arney placing third at 5:48.01.
Cloud’s Jolena Deaton grabbed second in the1200m Relay Split with a 4:47 while teammate Mariah Edwards (2:43) finished first in the 800m Relay Split with Deaton (3:01) placing third. The team also got a first from Ryleigh Balke (30.5) in the 200m Relay Split with Gabrielle Dakin (30.8) taking third. 
The 100m Relay Split  saw a trio of Cloud runners Edwards (13.5), Balke (13.9) and Dakin (14.2) taking the top spots.
The 100m was won by Fremont’s Victoria Ekkel who posted a 13.44 with White Cloud’s Mariah Edwards coming in third  with a 14.19 time.

Boys

Packer Connor Pettis (12.01) notched third in the 100m with teammate Sean Pettis (4:36.98) taking second in the 1600m.
Bryce Higman (18.8) and Degan Wawsczyk (20.2) posted the top two times in the 100m Hurdles Relay Split. Packer Daniel Romero (42.17) was the top finisher in the 300m Hurdles, chased by Lion Tim Dosch (44.84)
The Packers took first in the 4x100m behind Pettis, Gabe Curtice, Jacob Burns and Khai Noordyk (45.95) with the Lions quartet of Dosch, Ethan Reyburn, Jordan Holm and Chad Saucier (47.45) coming in third. Fremont also took top honors in the 4x200m  with Romero, Burns, Pettis and Noordyke posting a 1:35.25 with White Cloud running third with Dalton Crawford, Dominick Burkhart, Noah Robinson and Vincent Ockert ((1:38.78).
In the 4x400 Packers Gary Springstead, Owen Hertel, Bjorn Johnson, and Lucas Bradley  placed second (3:41.89) while in the 4x800 White Cloud finished third behind Coleson Cruzan, Joshua Brown, Carson Foondle, and Nathan Ciolk (9:11.59).
In the Sprint Medley Relay WC nabbed first with Crawford, Ciolk, Burkhart and Ockert (1:41.75) and Newaygo’s Reyburn, Dosch, Cole Hefner, and Jadon Ryman (1:43.28) took third. The Distance Medley Relay saw Fremont finish third with Hertel, Pettis, Carter Sherman and Chase Lowery posting 11:38.58.
White Cloud dominated the shot put getting a first from Lloyd Sebright -Johnson (45 '4) and a second from Jace Silverthorn (44’5) with Silverthorn adding a second in discus, flinging it 134’.075.
Cloud’s Noah Robinson cleared 5’10” to finish first in the high jump and teammate Bryce Higman leapt 5’6”, good enough for third. White Cloud pole vaulter Nathan Ciolk nailed down second with an 11’6” vault.
