Cloud splits with Morley in baseball, drops a pair in softball. Softball Newaygo 12-11 Fremont 2-3 In this Friday conference matchup the Lions took care of business early pounding out a 5 inning win in the opener. Lily Swinehart ripped a pair of doubles to plate 5 teammates while Addison Goodin, Emmerson Goodin, Olivia DeJohn and Sydnee Kirk each collected a pair of hits. Kirk sparkled on the mound tossing a two hitter while striking out 6 to earn the win. Game 2 saw Addison Goodin touch ‘em all as she belted a round tripper to go with her double, single and 3 RBI’s and Swinehart’s bat kept producing with 3 runs knocked in from her 3 hits. DeJohn added another pair of hits in the ‘cap as well. Kirk once again took to the mound and once again went the distance for the win setting down 4 Packers on strikes. Newaygo 11-4 Montague 10-5 Saturday the Lions hosted Montague in a non con double header and managed a hard earned split In Game 1 the Lion bats kept producing with Emmerson Goodin rapping a pair of doubles that brought in 2 runs and Beverly Kerr sending a pair of teammates home via her 2 singles. Sidney Lay tripled in a run and Swinehart rapped a pair of hits while Kirk toiled on the mound to capture her 3rd mound win in 2 days. The nightcap took 10 innings to decide with the Wildcats eking out the win for the split. DeJohn, Kirk, and Haley Stevens laced a pair of hits apiece as did Addison Goodin who doubled in a run for the Lions. Next up for Newaygo is a return to conference play Tuesday when the TC Vikings sail into town for a doubleheader starting at 4pm. Fremont 4-20 Newaygo 2-3 In the opened Payton Mansfield went the distance for the Packers sending 16 Lions back to the dugout on strikes to secure the win for the visitors. Logan Nelson knocked in a pair and Michael Baden also collected an RBI. Brendin Brechting tossed 4 strong innings for the Lions but the Newaygo bats were limited to a pair of hits and 2 first inning runs. In the ‘cap it was all Fremont as they pounded out 17 hits and took advantage of 5 Lion errors to gain the sweep.Joey DeLong, Jaxon Deur, and Drew DeBlaked plated 3 teammates apiece and Deur tossed 5 innings to get the W. Morley Stanwood 7-7 White Cloud 3-11 The Cloud dropped the opener before coming back to beat the 'Hawks in the nightcap.
