Son nets 2, Briggs holds the line Photos by Tara Hefferan Newaygo 3 Tri County 2 It was Senior Night on the soccer field and the Lions were coming off a pair of ties and facing a Tri County team that had inched past them in the conference standings. And they came up big taking a 3-0 lead and holding off a late Viking run to push their undefeated string to 10 matches. Alexandra Son punched a pair of goals past the TC defense (assisted by Grace Painter and Jaxi Long) and Painter also found the back of the net for the Lions. The Lions possessed the ball well from the defensive line through the midfield all the way up to the forwards. Sofia Briggs once again anchored the back line, thwarting the attempts by the Vikings. Coach Matt Painter: “After battling injuries and absences that have left us short-handed, I was very proud of how our girls came together and played so well as a team. As Tri County made a late rally, we held tough as a team to hang on for the win. As a coach, what more could I ask for?”
Now Newaygo (4-0-2, 8-0-2) looks to Friday when the team travels north to take on Big Rapids (4-0, 6-3) in a match that could determine a conference title. Game time 5pm. Go Lions!
