The 2nd annual North Woods Invite was held Saturday, September 11 at Conklin Park in Croton. This is the Newaygo Cross Country Team's home course; the meet sponsored by North Woods General Store of Newaygo. Six schools participated in the high school divisions: Grand Rapids Union, Hudsonville, Morley-Stanwood, Muskegon Catholic Central, Newaygo and White Cloud. Middle school participating schools included City High, Morley-Stanwood, Muskegon Catholic Central, Newaygo, and White Cloud. Weather cooperated perfectly as the athletes wound their way through the hilly, natural cross country course. From White Cloud's Coach Andrea Atwood: The cross country team competed at the Newaygo North Woods invitational on Saturday. The boys narrowly missed the victory by four points, being edged out by Division 1 Hudsonville. White Cloud placed four runners in the top ten. Nathan Ciolk (3rd), Kobe Canning (5th) and Coleson Cruzan (6th) were award winners. Carson Foondle (9th), Kaleb Canning (15th), Tristan McHaney (16th), and Malachi Graves (19th) rounded out the top seven. Also competing well for the Indians were Nik Parks (31st), Ashton Byle (32nd), Avery Bowman (36th), Christian Ringler (37th), Keagan Kailing (38th), and Wyatt Karnes (55th). The lady harriers came home with a fifth place finish. Annie Feldpausch led the charge with 30th place finish, followed by Kiara Edwards (37th), Jolena Deaton (46th), Courtney LaClair (47th), Ryleigh Balke (56th), CeCe Rodriguez (59th), Allie Rodriguez (60th), Lillie Keith (65th), and Sydnee Ochs (66th). Personal best times were set by Coleson Cruzan, Carson Foondle, and Ryleigh Balke. Season best times were achieved by Kobe Canning, Nathan Ciolk, Tristan McHaney, Courtney LaClair, CeCe Rodriguez, and Allie Rodriguez. The Lady Lions were led by sophomore Remington Arney, who placed 2nd with a time of 20:49. The top 7 were rounded out by Elizabeth Chaffee (17), Olivia DeJohn (18), Zoey Walerczyk (29), Lyda Lathrop (38), Connelly Hefferan-Nordlund (43) and Clara Riddering (44).
For the boys of Newaygo, Michael Murray led the way with a time of 21:25 (27). He was followed by Jadon Ryman (39), Bryce Grugett (40), Mathew Miedema (44) and Luke Acton (50).
