Grant and Newaygo track teams competed at the Kent City Regional on Friday, May 18. Colten Covington qualified for the State Meet in the 3200 meter run with an additional qualifier time of 10:03. Benny Gonzales qualified by taking 2nd in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 16.37 seconds. The 4 x 800 meter relay team of David Jaimes, Colten Covington, Eli Bradley and Spencer Cole qualified with a 2nd place finish and a time of 8:28. The following athletes earned medals by placing in the top 8: Jared Evans in the 200 meters; Spencer Cole and David Jaimes in the 800 meter run; Benny Gonzales in the 300 meter hurdles; Trevor Lowry, Brett Long, Benny Gonzales, and Johann Vega in the 4 x 200 meter relay; Johann Vega, Spencer Cole, David Jaimes and Jared Evans in the 4 x 400 meter relay; Chaise Konicki in both the Shot Put and Discus; Hunter Humphreys and Brett Long in the high jump; and Benny Gonzales in the pole vault. Two Newaygo athletes qualified for the State Meet at Comstock Park on June 2nd. David Gonzalez in the long jump with a distance of 19'10" and a 2nd place finish, and Tylor Bergers in pole vault with a height of 12'3". The following athletes earned medals (placing in the top 8): Nolan Brockway in the 110 high hurdles, Jarrod Wismar in the 400 dash, Dalton Jones, David Gonzalez, Zachary Rodriguez and Anthony Hudson in the 4 x 100 meter relay, Samantha Dosch, Haleigh Schmitt, Liza Nausadis and Ellie Nausadis in the 4 x 800 meter relay, and Daisy Hagen in the shot put. Chaise Konicki also is a state qualifier in the shotput by meeting the additional qualifying mark.
