Despite being on the very cusp of Valentine’s Day it is still early in the season for area cagers. Here’s what’s on tap for Friday. Want to watch the game at home? Check out our article on streaming the games. https://www.nearnorthnow.com/sports1/where-to-catch-the-action Girls Grant (1-1) at Tri County (1-0) The Tigers ran away from Reed City Tuesday before falling to Covenant Christian the next day. The Vikings blew past Chip Hills scoring 73 points in their opener Newaygo (1-0) at Fremont (0-1) The Lions shook off the Hornets while the Packers were doubled up by a strong showing from the Big Rapids team. The Pack is still working the pieces of a team that lost many veteran players while the Lions have boatloads of Varsity experience up and down their roster and the outside shooting of the Longs opens things up down below. Lakeview (0-1) at Holton (0-1) Both of these teams are in major rebuilding mode.and should the game go like their openers whoever gets to 20 first might take this one since the teams scored a total of 26 points between them. The Wildcats saw Kent City drop 125 points on them in their loss. Yep, not a misprint, 125. The Red Devils ‘held’ Morley to just 51. Holton is at home which should give them a bit of an edge and we think the teams will find the scoring in this game a bit easier than their first go-round Morley Stanwood (1-0) at White Cloud (1-0) The Cloud has some intriguing weaponry and the win over the Panthers likely wasn’t representative of the level of offense they can produce. Morley won big but they were facing a team struggling to stay on the floor with the ‘Hawks. Early game but likely will reveal who might be the primary challenger to Kent City. Kent City (1-0) at Hesperia (0-1) The Eagles aren’t going to score in triple figures as they did against Lakeview but they can fill it up quickly and their defense is smothering. Bayle and Tinkham will likely be given little room so the Panthers will need to get them a lot of help early on if they want to stay with KC. Boys Grant (1-0) at Tri County (1-0) The Tigers battled the Coyotes and some early shooting woes to post their win. The Vikings handled Chip Hills easily. Early game that should tell a bit about both teams. Newaygo (0-1) at Fremont (0-1) The Lions fell just short at CM. Stephens can fill it up and Decker should be a force on the glass. The Packers were ice cold from the floor in their loss to BR and will need to find a hot hand from McDonald or Zerfas to get the offense rolling. Lakeview (0-2) at Holton (1-0) The Red Devils posted a win over Morley after they fended off a couple of runs by the ‘Hawks. The Wildcats have dropped their first two. Holton has Poling inside and sharpshooter Brant outside and a solid crew around them. Morley Stanwood (0-1) at White Cloud (1-0) WC dominated Hesperia while Morley fell short in Holton. The Cloud has a lot of players who contribute this year but Morley has always been a tough hurdle to overcome. Kent City (1-0) at Hesperia (0-1) While the Eagles may not be the juggernaut their colleagues on their girls team are, they are solid and strong. The Panthers are a game group but they will have to have a whole lot go their way to hang in there with KC.
