Photos by Kiara Edwards Harrison 42 White Cloud 22 The Cloud battled the host Hornets but some untimely turnovers were too much for the Indians to overcome and they slipped to 0-2 on the season. Jayden Robinson threw for 113 yds and 2 TDs, one each to Jacob Anibal and Dalton Crawford. Reece Johnson piled up 104 yds on the ground, scored a TD and tallied 11 tackles on the other side of the ball while James Visser led the defense with 13 tackles. White Cloud (0-2) plays their home opener Friday when long time rival Hesperia (2-0) comes to town. Manistee 22 Fremont 12 The Packers were playing at home and jumped out to a 6-0 lead when Brayden Crosley took it in from 5 yards out. The conversion failed but the hosts put up another 6 when Khai Noordyk hustled in from 9 yards out. Once again the attempted 2 point play fell short and Fremont held a 12-0 edge. The Mariners struck back picking off a pass then scoring on a 4th down 18 yard pass play before the half to cut the margin to 12-8. A turnover on the kickoff to start the second half set up another Mariner score, also in the air and the Manistee defense held off the Packers to capture the WMC opener for both schools. Karter Frens finished with 149 yards rushing with Noordyk adding 38. Asa Barnhard led the defense with a dozen tackles while Trentyn Corley, Chance Crawford and Michael Robinson each collected 9. Fremont (0-2, 0-1) continues conference play when they host Ludington (1-1, 0-0) on Friday. Hesperia 54 Holton 0 Skyler Stalbaum crossed the goal line 4 times while Blake Sayer ran in 2 TDs and tossed a pair as well in a rivalry game rout of the Red Devils. Ian Fox and Thor Klaus each caught a scoring pass from Sayer. Stahlbaum also had a big night on the other side of the ball collecting a dozen tackles and forcing a fumble. Kalus finished with 9 tackles and also forced a fumble and Noah Walker tallied 8 tackles David Addison led the Devils with 52 yards rushing and finished with 8 tackles and a fumble recovery This Friday Hesperia (2-0,1-0) will visit White Cloud (0-2) while Holton (0-2, 0-1) will play their home opener against Ravenna (1-1,1-0). Newaygo 21 Central Montcalm 12 The Lions made a statement with a road win over a rugged Hornet squad. Lion Pride is back and ready to roar. The last time Newaygo began the season 2-0 was 2014 and the win over CM provides some momentum as the Lions begin conference play this Friday when they take on Grant in the traditional rivalry matchup. Tri County 56 Grant 6 Coach Butler’s team proved too much for the Tigers who fell behind early and saw the Vikings run away with the game. Grant will try to shake off this one and prepare to face Newaygo on Friday.
