By Ken DeLaat Grant at Newaygo The 75th meeting with the Lions holding a 38-36 edge. The Lions roared to their second win over a highly touted Hornet team. Coach Munger’s restore the roar seems to be translating well on the field. Grant’s win over K-ville, a program that has won once in their last 23 games, might have instilled a bit of confidence in the Tigers. Then came a thrashing by TC last week. A game Grant was never in. It is after all a rivalry game and I’ve seen enough of the games between these two schools to know that regardless of records lots can happen in a game like this. But Newaygo is looking like a team that can outdo expectations this season. The Tigers are going to have to try and forget about last week and hopefully catch a break or two if they want to have a shot here. Hesperia at White Cloud Also the 75th game between these two neighbors with Hespo winning 40 of them. The Panthers are 2-0 for the first time since the ‘15 team that went undefeated in the regular season. Quarterback Blake Sayer is playing at a high level and Skyler Stalbaum is a weapon on both sides of the ball. The Cloud has a talented qb as well in Jayden Robinson and Reece Johnson is a demon on defense while providing WC with a potent running attack. It’s at White Cloud and the Indians could use a win with conference play starting next week. The Panthers have 4 really tough games in front of them and want to keep their mo going. Look for turnovers to decide this one. Ludington at Fremont My go to guy for Packer predictions has gone silent on me. Likely a bit miffed that I referred to him as ‘kind of a homer’ however we’re hoping he’ll stay in touch. But back to the game at hand. The Packers looked great for the first half then fell victim to mistakes and turnovers. The Orioles beat a punchless Alpena team then lost a shootout with Mason County Central last week at home. The Packers need a win badly and they won’t see home field again until mid October. If they can play at the level they have shown in parts of the first two games they could pull this one out but they have to do it for 48 minutes and avoid un timely errors. Ravenna at Holton The Red Devils can’t score and can’t keep opponents out of the endzone. The Bulldogs are always a tough matchup and this one should see a running clock at some point.
