BASEBALL Holton 9-10 Kent City 8-7 Down 8-5 in the bottom of the 7th the Red Devils came up big in the clutch with a game winning rally to take the opener. Cody Moreen singled then Cody Wright reached base on an Eagle error. Broc Brown delivered a double that scored Moreen before Drew Trygstad tied the game with a 2 run double. Rice Robin came to the plate and laid a bunt down the first baseline sending the winning run home. Wright picked up the mound win in relief. In game 2 the teams battled back and forth with 5 lead changes before Holton took command with 3 runs in the 6th. Trygstad got the win coming out of the pen to shut down the Eagles for an inning before Aiden Poling slammed the door in the 7th to earn the save. Nathan Slowik went 7 for 7 on the day including a pair of doubles, 4 RBI's and 5 runs scored. Austin Fowler drove home 4 with 4 hits and crossed the plate 3 times for the Devils.4 hits, 4 RBI's, 3 runs scored 1 walk Brendan Boyd finished with 5 hits and 4 RBIs and Bryant Fahling collected 5 hits and scored 3 times for Kent City. Morley Stanwood 11-14 Hesperia 0-4 In game one the Panther bats were cold, as they could only muster four hits against Mohawk starter Kyle Ososki. Jacob Klemundt (triple), Logan Balkema (double), Hunter Billman and Logan Pierson (double) each collected hits for Hesperia.Balkema took the loss on the mound. In game two the Panthers began with four runs in the bottom of the first inning off MS starter Tucker Cook. . After giving up four runs in the first the Mohawks cruised the rest of the way scoring fourteen unanswered runs. Jacob Klemundt accounted for all three of the Panther hits off Cook. With the sweep the Panthers slip to 5-14 on the season and 4-11 in the CSAA Silver. The Panthers travel to White Cloud on Friday and conclude CSAA action next week with a single game on Monday with Holton and a doubleheader with Lakeview next Tuesday. SOFTBALL Hesperia 17-18 Morley Stanwood 2-3 The Panthers banged out 16 hits to take the opener in 3 innings. Ellie Palmer got the win from the slab and Makenna Swisher paced the offense lacing 4 singles and plating a pair of teammates. Alyssa Miller doubled and tripled to collect 4 RBIs while Caragan Frees and Palmer each finished with a pair of hits Game 2 proved to be another 3 inning affair with Lynnsey Tinkham picking up the win for the Panthers.Frees homered. Tinkham drove home 3 and Natalie McGahan singled twice and picked up 2 RBIs. Hesperia evened its season mark at 11-11 with an 8-7 record in the Silver. White Cloud 16-17 Lakeview 0-0 Coach Barnhard: Last night the Varsity Girls were able to partially heal their batting averages against a Lakeview team that is still struggling to rebuild as they swept both ends of their doubleheader. In Game 1, Hannah Brown was a single away from hitting for the cycle as she collected a 2B, 3B,HR and a pair of RBI’s, Allison Schulz had 2 hits with a 2B and 2 RBI’s, Jordan Bulk had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s, Olivia Bowman blasted a 2-run HR, while Hallie Schulz and Kara Davis each had a hit and 2 RBI’s. Hallie picked up the win striking out 8 in the 16 – 0 4 inning win. The girls kept it going in Game 2 with Allison Schulz leading the way with 3 hits including a 2B and 3 RBI’s, followed by Hallie Schulz with 2 hits and 4 RBI’s, Olivia Bowman with 2 hits, one being a 3B and 2 RBI’s, Hannah Brown with a solo HR and scoring 4 runs, Kala Pasch with a 3B, Madison Smith and Kylie Plotts with a 2B each for a 17-0 3 inning win. Kara Davis struck out 5 for the win. Kent City 11 White Cloud 0 Monday night the Varsity Girls hosted Kent City in a single game make-up of a rainout from April 30.
