Bode’s bat brings win in ‘cap
White Cloud split their double header with Morley Stanwood on Friday Night, on a rainy, windy, miserable night. In Game #1, the Indians held the Mohawks scoreless for the 1st 3 innings, then an error-plagued 4th inning allowed 4 runs to come across the plate. The Mohawks won game #1 by the score of 7-0. The Indians were led in pitching by Taylor Bode, who struck out 4 and gave up only 2 hits in 3 2/3 innings of work. Mason Cruzan led the team in hitting, going 2 for 2. In the night cap, the rain continued to fall, but that did not cool off the Indians as they jumped out to a 3 run lead in the first inning aided by a ringing double down the left field line by Taylor Bode. Bode added another RBI single in the 2nd inning. WC fought through another error prone inning in the 2nd allowing Morley to tie the game at 4, but they would not score again in the game. Landyn McGowen laced an RBI single in the 4th inning scoring Jacob Francis, to take back the lead 5-4. As darkness loomed, in the 6th inning, with the bases loaded, Bode boomed a long shot over the left fielder's head driving in 3 runs, and then scored on a throwing error, allowing the Indians to take a commanding 9-5 lead. The game was then called because of darkness. Landyn McGowen picked up the win on the hill, throwing 4 innings, striking out 8, while allowing only 2 hits. Mason Cruzan came on in the 5th to shut the Mohawks down in order for the Save. Alex Cruzan's outstanding fielding play on a grounder behind 2nd base to end the 5th inning was the defensive highlight of the game. White Cloud will host Lakeview Tuesday in a doubleheader beginning at 4pm
