Mound work proves to be the key in sweep of RD's
Photos by Bobbie Sue Cruzan A road trip to Holton resulted in a doubleheader sweep for the vising WC Varsity. In the opener the Indians shut out the Red Devils by the score of 5-0, behind a stellar performance on the mound by Taylor Bode. Bode struck out 12, walked 1 and gave up only 3 hits in 6 1/3 innings. Mason Cruzan came in to retire the final two batters on strikes.The Indians were led at the plate by Landyn McGowen with 2 hits, one being a long double over the left fielder's head to drive in 2 runs. Bode, Cruzan, and Jacob Francis each collected 2 hits a piece. In the nightcap White Cloud won 8-6 behind a strong relief performance by Cruzan who came on in relief in the 1st inning. Mason pitched the final 6 1/3 innings striking out 8, walking 1 and giving up only 3 hits and 3 runs. At the plate, the Indians were led by Jacob Francis, McGowen, and KJ Strait with each collecting a trio of hits. William Fehrlen added to the offensive output rapping a pair of big hits. White Cloud will return home on Tuesday to take on Morley Stanwood. First pitch scheduled for 4pm.
