New Devils Coach Keith Swanson had his team ready as they knocked off defending champion Morley Stanwood at home.
The Devs saw a double digit lead disappear as the ‘Hawks grabbed a 30-28 lead early in the 4th but Holton retook the lead and held off MS for the win.
“ It was a team effort defensive win in a hard fought game,” said Coach Swanson.
Aidan Poling paced the Red Devils with 14 points adding 5 boards and 3 assists , Wyatt Monette hit for 7 while grabbing 5 rebounds and also collecting 3 assists and Carter Brant lit it up from outside with a trio of triples finishing with 9 points.
The Red Devils host Lakeview Friday.
Big Rapids: 54 Fremont 35
Coach Zerfas: In our first game since the district finals were canceled last season we came out shooting cold and struggled the whole night to make baskets. The shots were open, we just missed. The difference in the game was Big Rapids hit 9 3pt shots and we only made 2-33 from beyond the arc. Big Rapids did a good job packing the paint on defense to stop drives, we just could not buy a bucket. Overall we only shot 15-55. Joshua Zerfas led all scorers with 14 points and added 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Braiden McDonald had 10 points and 8 rebounds. DeMarcus Lee led Big Rapids with 13 points. We play at home Friday against Newaygo.
The Packers host the Newaygo Lions on Friday, while Big Rapids has a matchup with Central Montcalm.
Grant 60 Reed City 51The Tigers overcame a pesky Coyote team and cold shooting in the first half to get their first win of the season.
Gage Burrows led the Grant Tigers with 19 pts with 5 3's. Brett Long and Cole Lesley added 14 and 10, respectively.

Ashton Stephens led the team with 24 points while Gabriel Schillman knocked down 11.
Bryce Decker was strong on the glass and the paint as he snared a dozen rebounds while swatting away 5 Hornet attempts.
