Today State Representative Josh Schriver introduced a resolution to condemn the Supreme Court of the United States’ decision in Obergefell v Hodges which is the decision handed down by the court which ruled that the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples.
There were 6 co-sponsors of the bill including District 101 Representative Joseph Fox whose district includes Newaygo County. We have reached out to Rep. Fox for comment and will update should we hear from him.

What is a STATE Rep doing wasting OUR time on a resolution regarding a SCOTUS decision?! Probably just looking to stir up some donations from his fellow bigots. I used to work with Joe on local issues and thought he was a good leader. Then I found out what his real agenda was: bigotry. He has done nothing of consequence to benefit us in Newaygo County while in office. Just lumbers about, saying he'll "pray about" the issues important to his constituents. He is considered a joke by his colleagues at the State Capital. Should have stayed retired or returned to the pulpit, but instead, he just wants to collect that paycheck and benefits on our dime. We deserve a better, competent leader but the Newaygo County Grassroots zealots made sure we got this bozo.

Newaygo is a beautiful place and welcoming to all. I'm not sure that Mr. Fox knows anyone who is gay or part of a gay couple, but perhaps he would be willing to have a conversation with those who he disapproves of before co-sponsoring a bill in the legislature. Judge not, that thee be judged, remember?

State Representative Josh Schriver has been relieved of his recent committee assignments due to his inclination to conspiracy theories and hate speech. "“Representative Schriver has a history of promoting debunked theories and dangerous rhetoric that jeopardizes the safety of Michigan residents and contributes to a hostile and uncomfortable environment for others,” House Speaker Tate said.
