Newaygo County Kids Day A Giant Success Photos and story by Alexis Mercer Summer for many Newaygo County students has officially started. What better way to celebrate than by playing games, eating great food and winning prizes? The Newaygo County Kids' Day took place on Saturday, June 10 in Brooks Park from 12:00-3:00. The sun was shining and the people were plentiful. Kids of all ages laughed, played and enjoyed the festivities... Newaygo County Law Enforcement vehicles lined the closed street, local churches sponsored games and prizes, Newaygo Public Schools Food Department provided free food for anyone 18 and under, and ChoiceOne Bank painted faces.
Kids could work a fire extinguisher to learn how to put out a fire, and then get an ice cold slushy! And if you were lucky, you got to help catch the tortoise that was determined to escape the event by sneaking under the fence in the animal petting area. There were many new attractions to this year’s event from years past. One of those included two giant inflatables for jumping and sliding! Another new attraction was the dunk tank. Employees and volunteers from the Newaygo Fire Department took turns braving the freezing water as kids lined up to take their turn in throwing the ball at the target. One of the most exciting additions of the event came with Sui Generis’s generous giveaway of an entire children’s bedroom set. The business posted a picture of the winner with the following caption on FaceBook: “Congrats to our kids bedroom giveaway winner, Emberlynn Balcom!!! We hope you love your new bedroom furniture and area rug! We had so much fun today hosting our first big giveaway at Newaygo County Kids' Day!” For more information about the day’s sponsors, visit the official Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/NewaygoCountyKidsDay/ Comments are closed.
