 Free Fishing Day On The Horizon By N3 News Team One of the absolute coolest events in our area is the annual Russell H Gilbert Free Fishing Day in White Cloud. This fishing phenomenon was started by its namesake the former mayor of that fair city who wanted to give area kids a day of fun and festivities complete with prizes for the youthful anglers. Since his passing it has not only continued but grown exponentially since those early days through the efforts of his family and friends. “The day itself is one I look forward to every year,” said Dianne Patrick, one of the chief organizers and Mr. Gilbert’s daughter. “I get to see people spending time with family and get to relive and share special memories of my Dad. “People just don't forget about him. He was a rare one and I'm so proud to be is daughter! “Since he passed... ...the event has grown by over 20 times and it's a lot of work but well worth it. Especially when you see comments from people you don't know posting on facebook about their special memories of White Cloud. They often include Kids Free Fishing Day as their number one memory and how excited they are to be bringing their own children. It's just a great feeling.” Kids Free Fishing day is Sat June 4, 2016 @ Lake White Cloud. Children ages 3-16 only. Registration is at 8:30 am, poles in water at 9:30 am. Prizes will be awarded at 3:00 pm. All fish must be registered by 2:45 p.m. to win prizes and children must be present to win. As an added attraction the Turkey Federation will be hosting a bb gun shooting range that day.
