Tamarac Turkey Trot’s free training program can help get runners ready for annual Thanksgiving tradition
FREMONT – The Tamarac Turkey Trot, a Newaygo County Thanksgiving tradition, is inviting runners of all abilities to join a free training program to help get them get ready for the 5K and 10K races. Train2Trot is a 10-week prep program, with the first week of activities starting on September 18 and end November 20, a few days before Thanksgiving Day Nov. 23. The deadline to register is Sept. 15. In addition to being a free training program that’s included with a Turkey Trot registration, Train2Trot also includes:
“Train2Trot is a great way to help people get ready for Turkey Trot, stay motivated and stay healthy as they work to achieve their fitness goals,” said Tracey Crowley, certified running coach at Tamarac who developed the Train2Trot program. “Train2Trot can help give runners the structure and schedule to stay on track, and that’s why we encourage people of all fitness levels to join this free, fun program. Ultimately, Train2Trot brings people together so they can push and motivate each other, and have fun in the process.” On Thanksgiving Day, the 10K and 5K runs start at 8 a.m. and 8:05 a.m. respectively. The untimed 5K walk begins at 8:05 a.m. and the ½-mile Kids Fun Run starts at 9:05 a.m. Register online at tamaracwellness.org. Participants can only register for one event. This year, Turkey Trot is offering a special discount, where families who register five runners can sign up a sixth runner free.
