Program Supports Summer Reading Reading Now Network Gifts Summer Home Libraries To Big Jackson Students Through the collaboration of surrounding counties literacy coaches (Ottawa, Mecosta-Osceola, and Newaygo) and the leaders of the Reading Now Network, approximately 600 new books were donated by Scholastic for students to participate in their 'My Books Summer' reading program. Thursday, May 25, the students of Big Jackson shopped among books that were specifically chosen for them based on their independent reading level. With much preparation, guidance and modeling from Big Jackson teacher Jen England, students got to pack a summer reading bag with reading strategy bookmarks, reading logs and comprehension activities to go along with their free books. NC RESA Literacy Coach, Leslie Smith and MOISD Literacy Coach, Amy Posey were able to help facilitate this amazing opportunity for our local children. Students brought home 4 books with the promise of 12 more personally picked books being mailed to them periodically throughout the summer. This program will keep students reading throughout the summer months to help prevent summer reading loss.
