The Newaygo County Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect  held their first annual Super Hero Run featuring a 5k as well as a 1 mile fun run as part of Newayo’s Memorial Day Weekend activities.

A gorgeous Saturday morning greeted the runners at the high school and after  a rousing a capella version of the Star Spangled Banner as a kick-off  a stream of Caped Crusaders, Winged Warriors, Men (and Women) of Steel and even an occasional Peter Parker alter-ego took to the streets of Newaygo. With a police escort guiding the way for this cadre of crime-fighters the neighborhoods they passed never looked safer.

The theme fit well with the organization’s advocacy efforts since kids, particular the most vulnerable, all need  a hero from time to time.
