Come celebrate the holidays with John Berry's 28th Annual Christmas Tour at the Dogwood Center on Sunday, December 15 at 7:30 p.m.! Grammy-winning John Berry is once again bringing his annual Christmas tour to the Dogwood Center, mixing such Berry classic hits as “Your Love Amazes Me” and “Standing On The Edge Of Goodbye,” and “I Think About It All The Time” with holiday favorites, including his always-standing-ovation performance of “O Holy Night.” John’s enduringly powerful performances draw on a lifetime of making music and living life. Born in South Carolina and raised in Georgia, he began playing guitar at 13, performing shows at age 14 and making records at age 19. “By the time I was 17, I knew that music was what I wanted to do with my life”; and he has done it well ever since. No one moves an audience quite the way this platinum-selling vocalist does, and this year's appearance is sure to be the hottest holiday ticket in town. Join in and get that holiday spirit! For more information, follow John on his website at www.johnberry.com. Tickets are $52.50 and are available online at www.dogwoodcenter.com, at the Dogwood Box Office, or at NCCA-Artsplace in downtown Fremont or just click here. I mean, seriously, who doesn’t love the Wizard of Oz? It’s a great story, one of a series of books about Oz by L. Frank Baum that have been loved by all ages and it also has the notoriety of being banned at times. Even in the mid 80’s a group of fundamentalists attempted to get it out of the school library because the book depicted witches that were nice. But we digress. The outstanding thespians from LionHeart productions in Grant who are delivering the goods include 44 actors who will take to the stage supported by another 20 who will work the production end of the performance. Lead roles include Kateri Schneider as Dorothy, Valerie Sweers as Auntie Em, Luke Lewis does double time as Uncle Henry and as an Emerald City guard. while Jamie Evans, Dakota Acosta and Spencer Escareno play the trio Dorothy collects on the way to see the Wizard, a role played by Devon Conley. The pair of witch roles on stage will be handled by Avery Mills (nice) and Anna Stephans (not so nice) Then of course there are a sea of Munchkins, a swarm of flying monkeys and other parts that play in the production. It starts tonight so if you're not going to the Newaygo game get your behind over to Grant and catch this wonderful slice of community theater. Here’s the schedule. Friday November 8th 7:00 PM Saturday November 9th- 7:00 PM Sunday, November 10th- 2:00 PM. Friday, November 15th- 7:00 PM Saturday, November 16th- 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM More to follow but here’s a taste of the upcoming seasonal offerings
By Ken DeLaat In the Christmas Spirit yet? Of course not. We’re barely past Halloween and there’s Turkey Day looming in a few short weeks. But hey, 105.7 has launched their cavalcade of carols where you can hear Mariah Carey belting out her song every hour or so and somewhere near 4,367 versions of Silent Night for the next 7 weeks. And if you are a Hallmark fan, as Lifetime Spousal Companion Lil most definitely is, they will be running their cache of Christmas movies 24/7, thousands of movies centered on approximately 7-8 plot lines (sorry Lil. Couldn’t stop myself). Hallmark will be the channel du jour at N3 World Headquarters until they shift to winter romances, Valentines Day flix, etc., etc. And while we will keep you updated as to the holiday goings on we want to deliver some highlights coming up you may not want to miss. Things are always busy but this coming season is Busy 2.0 so here are a few things to mark on your calendar. Shopping The Christmas Walk in Newaygo showcases local businesses in the downtown area and will be held December 6th this year. A week later Dec 13, Fremont hosts the Santa Stroll welcoming the Big Guy to town with their always epic Illuminated Parade and shopping deals downtown. Entertainment Many fans of the nearly world famous Braunschweiger Blues Band kick off their holiday reveling by attending what has become an annual concert at the Dogwood. It’s once again on Thanksgiving Saturday. If you don’t have your ticket you don’t have a table but there are still tickets available and who needs a table when we’re reveling The Dogwood has two Christmas shows on tap. On Friday December 13th The Founding: Celtic Christmas comes to town and two days later on Sunday John Barry returns with his 28th Christmas Show. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they handle three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights." –Maya Angelou |
