The Red Clay Strays will perform at the Dogwood Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, July 9 at 7:30 p.m. on the main stage. The Red Clay Strays are a country band from South Alabama with a sound as genuine as the dirt roads they grew up on. Their sound, with influences ranging from Johnny Cash, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Waylon Jennings, Marshall Tucker and country gospel among others blurs the lines between country and southern rock and brings an authenticity that is unique to the band. Lead singer, Brandon Coleman, with vocals that bring to mind a young Elvis, is the heart of their high energy show along with Drew Nix on rhythm guitar, Zach Rishel on lead, Andrew Bishop on bass and John Hall on drums. “Good Godly Woman”, their debut single in 2019, is featured in the box office movie Doctor Sleep, based on the novel by Stephen King and starring Ewan McGregor. Check out their music at www.redclaystrays.com. Tickets are only $15 and are available at www.dogwoodcenter.com, through the Dogwood Box Office, or downtown Fremont at NCCA-Artsplace. Seating style is reserved seating. For information, phone 231.924.8885. The Dogwood Center is located one mile east of downtown Fremont.

Book Review by Susan Herrick, Reference Librarian at FADL
If you love a good mystery, Anne Perry’s books are for you. Daniel Pitt, the protagonist of this novel, is a young lawyer who is engaging and thoughtful. He is drawn into this mystery through a case of mistaken identity. It isn’t his friend who was killed, but a partner, Drake, who was killed in a place no one could imagine he would ever visit. Perry evokes London’s dark side so clearly I felt the chill in the air. Daniel investigates Drake’s life, talking with powerful people and learning enough to move up the line. He is careful not to offend as he closes in, but word is spreading. Those desperate to remain unknown have taken offense and are threatening his family; his father is head of a special branch and his mother is an investigator in her own right. This story is such a compelling tale I had to keep reading just one more chapter. Hopefully Perry will continue with Daniel’s story as she did with his parents’ stories.
