Of course it’s Newaygo and Grant.
How could it not be?
We have a District final that’s taking place right here in our area at the impressive venue the Packers of Fremont call home. And to top it off the county’s oldest and fiercest rivals have survived through District play to hit the hardwoods one more time, the third time they’ve met this season.
The Tigers won both earlier matchups in the same manner that has brought them success all year. They jumped out to an early lead with...
...aggressive offense and opportunistic defense then held off each challenge the Lions made to try to get back in the game. The Grant team swarms after the ball from the tip-off to the buzzer and uses speed and quickness to create opportunities.
Geers has played at a high level all season and if Spencer Naffziger is piling up points in the paint early, Newaygo is in trouble. Adding to that is Chase, the freshman who continues to play with the poise of a Varsity veteran while ringing them in from outside, and a long bench of capable players. They will be tough to beat.
The Lions will have to put up points and steer clear of turnovers early. If Fisk can get some help he won’t be tied up inside as much and he should get some of that help from Swinehart who has put together strong performances in both games against the Tigers.
Karrip, Pike, Manlick, Davis and Polasek have each had some impressive outings and Coach Barrette will need all of them to be at their best in this one.
Lions and Tigers. One team ends their season. One heads for Sparta Monday to take on the winner of the Comstock Park, GR Catholic Central matchup.

See you there.
