Turkey Trotting And St Nick Kicking Calls Area Runners
N3 Harrier Team
Runners have enjoyed memorable area runs thus far this year like the Trail Town Blue Blaze that took folks through the White Cloud area woods on a gorgeous autumn morning and the A-T road race around Hess Lake which was, as always, accompanied by the scorching July heat.
Two more events in the oh-so-near future have long been a part of our holiday season and a staple for area runners, walkers, strollers and folks wanting to get outside and move a bit in the company of other like-minded enthusiasts.
First off, if you’ve never been to Tamarac’s Turkey Trot and you are anywhere in the wide range of people who like to...
...get a bit of outdoor exercise, show up on Thanksgiving morning and take part in this ideal way to kick off a four day weekend. , Yes it is T-Day weekend an elongated four day frolic of festivity and fun featuring days that will find many of us spending the bulk of our time feasting, shopping, snacking, watching football, noshing, stringing Christmas lights, munching and…well you get the idea.
It’s one of those food centered holidays combined with some major sitting around or milling about with the masses at the mall. What better way to feel good about yourself and justify the coming consumption and sedentary sequences than to jump start the old metabolism with a run walk or stroll on Turkey Day morning.?
There is always a gaggle or two of folks who show up dressed for the occasion in bird related garb and many come just to take part in the opening ceremonies and cheer on the participants. If you have a young one wanting to cut their running teeth with a half-mile fun run you can make this early Turkey Day eye-opener a family affair.
Turkey Trot- Thursday 8 am. Added bonus!!!!! Bring in a pair of gently used or (even better) new shoes and you can not only feel good about getting outside and moving about a little but also come away with the notion of having helped out a child or adult in need when you donate footwear to the fine folks at TrueNorth.
A mere 9 days later the enigmatic St. Nick Kick will see a large party of participants rally about for a run through Newaygo.
ChoiceOne Bank sponsors this celebratory segment of the Newaygo Christmas Festival and the race kicks off at 10am the day after the town turns back the clock for the enchantment of their annual Christmas Walk.
Saturday, December 3rd, 10am. Lots of cool people, cool weather and a very cool cause since the monies collected benefit the Lion Cross Country teams.
2 runs within 2 weeks celebrating 2 holidays.
2 much fun 2 resist.
