Time To Get Ready For The Turkey Trot
The Tamarac Turkey Trot, a Newaygo County Thanksgiving tradition, is launching a new free training program to help get runners ready for the 5K and 10K races.
Train2Trot is a 10-week prep program and the deadline to register is Sept. 15, with the first week of activities starting on Sept. 19 and...
...ending on Nov. 21, just before race day on Thanksgiving Day Nov. 24.
Developed by Tracey Crowley, Tamarac fitness instructor and a certified running coach, Train2Trot is designed to help build strength, stamina and speed from week to week. Runs and walks are interspersed with cross-training and rest days.
The program will include:
· Weekly emails with training schedules and tips;
· Group runs on Tuesday mornings or Wednesday evenings at Tamarac; and
· Individualized coaching.
“Train2Trot is a great way to help people get ready for Turkey Trot and stay healthy and motivated as they work to achieve their fitness goals,” said Josh Gustafson, Director of Community Health and Wellness. “We encourage everyone to take part in Turkey Trot and sign up for Train2Trot because it will give people the structure of a schedule that will keep them on track. We look forward to helping everyone have a terrific time at Turkey Trot.”
In addition to the new Train2Trot free program, Turkey Trot 2016 features new events that offer something for everyone: 10K and 5K runs, an untimed 5K walk and the ½-mile Fun Run for Kids. The Turkey Trot is now in its sixth year and attracts hundreds of runners and their families every year.
