Grant was able to hand Big Rapids their their first loss in conference play, spoiling a undefeated conference season for the Cardinals and giving the Tigers some momentum as they head into district play next week.
It was a rainy night and the Tigers took full advantage of the wet weather as Miguel Cisneros fired one past the Cardinal goalie off a pass from Dakota Arsenault to post a lead that would hold up through the first half in a tough defensive battle between the teams.
The second half continued to be...
...a standoff until Big Rapids seized a scoring opportunity and found the back of the net to knot the contest at one all.
With 5 minutes left in the game Big Rapids fouled Grant in the box leading to a penalty kick.
Arsenault made good on the attempt putting Grant up by one. For the last 4 minutes it was a defensive battle with the Tigers holding strong to secure the victory.
“I knew the boys could do it, ,” said Tiger Head Coach Ron Wight. “Big Rapids has a good team and we had a undefeated season in conference last year until Big Rapids beat us, so it was nice to return the favor.”
Top defenders were Dakota Arsenault with 32 intercepts and Albert Macias with 26 intercepts and Javi Jasso with 18 saves in goal.
The Tigers will begin postseason play on their home turf Monday at 5pm when they face their namesakes the Tigers of Shelby in the first round of play.
