Tiger Volleyballer Sierra Schuitema Earns MIVCA Award
Sierra Schuitema who spent the past four years as a setter and server extraordinaire for the Grant Tigers is one of 5 recipients statewide to be awarded the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA) grant an award given to high school seniors whose parents are members of the organization and is based on leadership, character, and outstanding academic performance throughout their high school career.
Sierra is coming off a senior season that saw her receive all state honors in the classroom as well as on the court. An academic all-stater with a 3.97 GPA her rugged play in the gym earned her a second consecutive berth on the All State first team as well.
Sierra’s accomplishments include a place in the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s record book as she finished 4th all time in career assists, 7th in career aces and holds the 9h place spot for single game assists setting up 57 shots for her teammates during Regional play this past year.
Ms. Schuitema will be plying her athletic skills as well as applying her academic abilities at a new level this fall when she joins the Yellow Jacket team at Cedarville University an NCAA DII school in southern Ohio that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
