Tiger Netmen Defeat Pack In Conference Opener

In the first conference dual match for either team, the host Tigers defeated the visiting Fremont Packers 7-1. Freshman Karlton Zerlaut won at #1 singles 6-0 6-0, senior Shayne Gardner won 6-1 6-1 at #2 singles and Dominick Brock took 3rd singles with a hard fought 6-1 7-5 match that lasted an hour and a half.
The Tigers doubles swept the visiting team. Seniors Andrew Stong and Spencer Johnston only lost 1 game at #4 doubles. Leading the charge was...
...another senior duo at #1 doubles, Mason Ferguson and Nick Horrisberger. Christian Ledezma and David Jaimes took #3 doubles while Spencer Naffzinger and Tony Hubbard triumphed in #2 doubles.
"The team played 5 matches in 4 days, so I was glad to see us perform at a pretty high level,” said Tiger Head Coach Scott Zerlaut. “Our doubles teams got it going in the second sets. They are a very strong part of our team’s success.
“Our top 2 singles players have a good deal of experience and played well too. We had a long weekend, playing state ranked Lansing Catholic in a scrimmage Friday night and then playing in a super tough Almont tournament Saturday, which included the #3 and #6 state ranked teams. “
The Tigers will welcome in the Norsemen of North Muskegon on Wednesday before hosting a quad tournament Saturday.
