Nearly halfway through the first quarter Laura Bouwkamp went to the line and converted a pair of free throws to give the Tigers their first points of the night. Fortunately the visitors from Reed City were equally cold since her shots tied the game at 2. Kylie Patton then scored to give Grant the lead but the Coyotes ran off the next 6 points and the low scoring quarter came to an end with the hosts down 8-4.
The second quarter opened with Ashley Herin...
blowing past the defense to score. While holding tough on defense the Tigers continued to struggle getting the ball in the hoop as they missed 5 free throws in a row before Nichole Whan dropped a pair followed by Herin who also converted both shots. Grant edged ahead then Bouwkamp got the ball in her hands and launched a triple that found the bottom of the net at the buzzer and the Tigers went to the locker room on a high note holding a 16-11 advantage.
The shot seemed to energize the Grant offense coming out of intermission as Bouwkamp Patton, Cecilia Male and Giorgia Palaeri all scored while their press began to wear down the Coyotes and the teams headed to the final frame with the home team holding a 27-18 lead.
The 4th was all Tigers. Behind Bouwkamp’s scoring and the dominating defense in the paint by Patton the team simply ran away from the visitors. Palaeri seemed to be all over the court snaring steals and knifing passes to her open teammates. When the dust cleared Grant came away with their 3rd straight win as the team continues their resurgence in the second half of the season.
Bouwkamp finished with 21 points, Patton hit for 9 while rejecting a host of Coyote shots and Herin added 5. Palaeri was a defensive demon on the night and tallied 4 points.
Grant (4-6, 6-10) is scheduled to host the Warriors of Chippewa Hills (2-8, 8-8) Tuesday.

The second game of the surge continues as the Tigers took control of the game early and raced to their 8th win in 9 games. Coupled with Fremont’s tough loss to Big Rapids the win gave Grant sole possession of second place in the Gold.
In a wild first quarter the Naffziger brothers Spencer and Tyler scored a half dozen points apiece and the team defense kept the young Coyote team off balance forging a 13-6 lead. In the second period began with Tyler Lopez canning a triple, then spearing a pass to Mike Frey who converted. After a stop Lopez put up an acrobatic shot and was fouled making it a 3 point play. Frey hit another and Lopez tripled again to make it a 15 point game. By halftime the Tigers were in control with a 32-16 lead.
Shayne Gardner and Marco Alvarez got into the scoring column in the third along with the Naffzigers and the Coyotes fell behind by 25 heading into the final period coasting to the conference victory.
Spencer Naffsiger led the Tigers with 21 points, Gardner hit for 12, Tyler Naffziger dropped in 11 and Lopez finished with 9.
Grant (8-2, 10-4) is scheduled to be on the road to Remus Tuesday to face Chippewa Hills.
