Taylor Crowley, Natalie Jamison, and Bre Harris each tallied two goals for the Packers while Stephanie Heger and Alena Christensen added lone goals and Abby Pell blanked the Eagles for the win.
Elly O’Neill, Crowley, Christensen, and Bree Stroven picked up assists for Fremont.The Packers are now 2-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play.. Kent City is 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Reed City 4 Grant 3
Sophomore Nikki Tellkamp, Junior Mallory Cronk and Senior Halley Robinson all scored and had an assist in a 4-3 loss at Reed City. Junior Michelle Settlemyre made 10 saves in net.
Newaygo 5-1 Reed City 0-4
Jarrod Heideman tossed a gem in the opener scattering 3 hits while blanking the Coyotes.
The Lions pushed across 4 runs in the 4th sparked by a Cooper Heinzman double one of his 3 hits in the game. Dylan Burkholder laced a pair of hits and the Newaygo defense did not make a single error in the win.
The nightcap saw the visitors grab an early lead and hold back the Lions for the win. Heinzman picked up another pair of hits but Newaygo failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities and settled for the split.
“We had two costly errors in the game that led to a couple of their runs,”said Coach Jerry Bomay. “We left 8 guys on base.”
“ We just couldn’t get that timely hit this game.”
Jacob Polasek pitched 6 2/3 innings yielding just 5 hit and 3 walks while striking out 6
Big Rapids 6-10 Grant 0-5
The Cardinals broke a scoreless ties in the 5th with a run then tacked on 3 more in the 6th and held on for the win.
A single by Zach VanderWeide in the fifth inning was the only hit for the Tigers.
Spencer Naffziger went 6 innings on the mound for Grant and suffered the loss.
In the cap the Cardinals scored 4 times in the 5th and added 4 more in the 6th to pull off the sweep. Casey Geers, Ian Francisco, Naffziger, and VanderWeide each had two hits to lead the Tiger offense.
Gabe Castro was saddled with the loss for Grant.
White Cloud 17-14 Lakeview 2-1
The Indians pounded out 8 runs in the 1st then added 6 more in the third enroute to a 4 inning win in the opener.
Maddie Seabrook led all hitters with 3 hits including a double and 4 RBI’s followed by Hannah Brown with 3 hits including a 2B and 2 RBI’s, Elexis Plotts with 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI’s and Selena Robeck also doubled and singled twice knocking in a pair.Robeck also picked up the win from the slab.
In the nightcap Hannah Brown had 3 doubles and 6 RBI’s, Elexis Plotts knocked a 2 run homer and Megan Sutherland had a double and a pair of RBI’s. Hallie Schulz got the win while striking out 3.
Fruitport 8 Grant 0
The Lady Tigers got the season started on a cold and windy afternoon at Fruitport. The team was a little shorthanded in doubles play missing a pair of players but managed to win several games while the singles matchups saw Grant face some formidable competition from the Trojan players.
“The whole team looked really good in their first match,” said Coach Scott Zerlaut.
