Tennis: Keelean Rolls To Singles Title
Grant finished 4th, Fremont 5th at Conference Championship
Tiger Netter Olivia Keelean was ‘en fuego’ as she stormed from her 4th seeded position to the championship. She took her first match over Kendyll Garber of Manistee in straight sets before toppling top seeded Lindsay Bliss of North Muskegon in straight sets then yielding just one game in defeating Whitehall’s Taylor Mikkelson for the title.
Her top finish came at the 2017 Coastal Tennis Conference held at Whitehall and Reeths Puffer. Division 4 Top ten ranked North Muskegon took home the team championship with 50 points and 3 flight champions
Fremont’s Jackie Strauss blanked her opponent from MCC before falling to Whitehall’s Vanessa Heylmun in the semis then wrapping up 3rd place with a win over Emily Markham of Ludington. Her Packer teammate Yuridia Ochoa reached the semis before coming up short against Whitehall’s Julia Nguyen and losing a close match for third against Ludington’s Alanna Patterson
Grant’s Jill Arenda took eventual champion Lindsay Holmes to three sets in the semi final match then lost a tough battle for third against Ludington’s Patterson
In doubles Olivia St Arnold and Shannon Roossinck avenged an early season 3 set loss in the first round winning 6-1 6-4 over Fremont’s Bazineau and Zimmerman The team of Brooklyn Pressler and Kathryn Stong played 3 strong matches, also beating a higher seed and going 3 sets with top ten Whitehall in their final match. Miriam Delgado and Madison Koopman finished 3rd besting he #2 seeded Ludington duo 6-2 7-6(5).
