Tamarac Turkey Trot Yields Shoe Harvest For TrueNorth
Runners, joggers and walkers who took part in the Thanksgiving Day Tamarac Turkey Trot donated more than 130 pairs of shoes to people in need. The gently used shoes were delivered to TrueNorth Community Services on Wednesday (Nov. 30).
The shoes will be distributed to families across Newaygo County throughout the year. The donations were made when participants...
...picked up their race packets the day before Thanksgiving and on race day itself.
“Avid runners often consider their shoes past prime when they’ve logged between 300 to 500 miles, and typically no longer use those shoes,” said Tracey Crowley, Tamarac fitness instructor and a certified running coach. “In many cases, those shoes can still be in decent condition, despite the miles.”
Turkey Trot 2016 attracted 395 participants, the largest number in at least the past five years.
