Early Slam By VanderWeide Helps Tigers Tame Spartans
Zach VanderWeide came to bat in the first inning with the bases full and delivered with a drive that cleared the left field fence for a grand slam to stake Grant to an early lead.
"I was pretty excited for Zach to do that,” said Tiger Coach Kurt Rider. “ This is a kid that has battled injury after injury throughout his high school career and it is great to see that he is able to bring it to a close playing a sport that he loves."

...two more runs capped off by their 4th home run of the night. Ian Francisco, who went 3-for-3 at the plate, belted a 2-run shot over the left center fence.
Tommy Kelley earned the win for the Tigers going six innings, allowing six runs, 14 hits, and striking out three. Sixbury took the loss for Sparta. He tossed five innings, surrendering 11 runs, six hits, and striking out three.
State Ranked Devils Take Two From Cloud
“On Tuesday White Cloud traveled to Holton to take on the #4 Division 4 team and found out quickly why they are rated where they are,” said Indian Coach Don Barnhard after his team was shut out by the Red Devils in the softball opener.
His team managed only 2 hits i in an 11-0 5 inning loss.
The 2nd game saw the Lady Indians leading 4-3 headed into the bottom of the 5th only to see Holton rally for 4 more runs to take a 7-4 lead.
“We rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the 7th only to fall short 7-6,” said Coach Barnhard.
Hannah Brown had 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s, Olivia Bowman collected a pair of hits and Chloe Stevens had a double for the Cloud.
Packers Compete In Double Dual
Fremont Boys Track fell short in a double dual against a pair of CSAA rivals. Tri County took their half of the dual by an 85-50 margin while Newaygo bested the Pack 72-65.
“Despite the losses we are continuing to have athletes improve upon their bestmarks,” said Coach Somers.
