Shelby Holds Off Pack 47-39
N3 Sports Team
The Tigers tried to squeeze their visitors from the start Monday night as they tossed some full court pressure at the Packers and converted a couple of early turnovers but Coach John Krim’s team settled in and managed to break through the press while getting their hosts in some early foul trouble.
The teams finished the first period with Shelby holding an 11-5 lead but the Packers chipped away at the lead and when the teams hit the lockeroom Shelby was clinging to a 20-18 lead.
Halfway through the third quarter the Tigers started pounding the glass on offense, converting second and third attempts to build...
...a 13 point advantage heading into the final frame and once again the Fremont squad battled their way back into contention cutting the margin to justv3 points with 2 minutes left on the clock.
In the end it was too much Jenny Beckman as the Tiger’s ace sharpshooter canned 10 of her game high 22 points down the stretch including 6 of 8 free throws to keep the Packers at bay.
“Something about playing at Shelby brings out the worse in our shooting,” said Coach Krim. “ On a positive not, we got to the free throw line 21 times but could only convert on 9 of those tries. We were able to get good shots from point blank range but just could not get them to drop.”
Bre Harris knocked down 17 points to lead the Pack and Natalie Jamieson hit for 8.
